So I finally came up with the first post. All about Tamil film industry. Before reaching an era of releasing the movies on internet instead of theatres, lets have a look into the history of theatres in Tamilnadu and also about the origin of Tamil film industry…..here it goes…
M.Edwards screened the first ever movie show in South India at Victoria Public Hall, Chennai in 1897
Electric Theatre-the first ever cinema house in South India was built by Major Warwick on Anna Salai, Chennai in 1900
Gaiety-the first Indian owned cinema house in South India was built by R.Venkiah.This still continues to screen movies in the same spot – 1914.
S.M.Dharmalingam Mudaliyar and Nataraja Mudaliyar started the first film producing concern in South India at Chennai.Nataraja Mudaliyar made Keechavathanam the first feature film to be made in South India in 1916.
Pre-censorship of films was introduced through the Indian Cinematography Act of 1918.
Exhibitor Film Services, the first distributing concern in South India was startedby A.Narayanan in the year 1927
In 1929, with the formation of General Pictures Corporation in Chennai, cinema emerges as an entertainment industry in South India.In 1931, Kalidas, the first Tami talkie was screened. It was directed by H.M.Reddy and T.P.Rajalakshmi played the lead role. So it Tamil movie industry placed its first step here.
Srinivasa Cinetone, the first sound studio in South India was started by A.Narayanan in the year 1934The birth of Stardom K.B.Sundarambal who received rupees one lakh as salary for playing the lead role in the film Nandanar (1935) .It was produced by Asandas Classical Talkies.
Cinema Ulagam,the first Tamil film journal was launched. It was edited and published by P.S.Chettiar in the year 1935
In the year 1936, the oldest studio in South India, Modern theatres was established at Salem.
Miss. Kamala, the first Tamil talkie to be directed by a woman named T.P.Rajalakshmi was released in the year 1936.
In 1937, Chinthamani, the first Tamil film to run for more than a year in a single cinema house was released.
The South India Film Chamber of Commerce started in Chennai in the year 1939, with S.Satyamurthi as the first president.
Harichandra(Tamil),was dubbed into Kannada by A.V.Meyyappa Chettiar thus becoming the first dubbed film in South India – 1943
In 1951, K.B.Sundarmbal,the first film artiste (That too a women) to enter the legislature, is nominated to the Madras Legislative Council.Alibabhavum Narpathu Thirudargalum (1955), the first full-length colour film was produced by Modern Theatres.
Tamizh Nadigar Sangam, an association of film artistes is founded by K.Subrahmanyam (1959).M.G.Ramachandran, film star wins an election from Parangimalai constituency in Chennai -1967.
Rajarajacholan for the cinemascope film in Tamil was released in 1973Sen has been married three times. Her first marriage, to Sanjay Sen, was when she was quite young. Her second husband was the science writer and journalist, Mukul Sharma. They later divorced amicably. Sen is presently married to Kalyan Ray, an author and professor of English who teaches at County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey, in the United States. She has two daughters, Kamalini and Konkona—who is also an actress—and two grandchildren.

In 2008, Sen was elected into the International Jury of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. The highly credentialed Jury, headed by a president of international distinction, determine winners from all nominations in each award category.
From 1986 to 2005, Sen was editor of the fortnightly Sananda, a Bengali women's magazine (published by the Ananda Bazar Patrika group) that enjoys equal popularity in West Bengal and Bangladesh. From November 2005 to December 2006, she was associated with the Bengali 24x7 infotainment channel Kolkata TV as Creative Director.
In 1986, the then-President of India bestowed the Padma Shri to Sen in recognition of her contribution to Indian cinema. Since then, she has received several lifetime achievement awards, and served on juries at film festivals around the world.
Priyadarshini is an Indian Tamil actress and TV anchor. She has appeared in a few Kollywood films, but her main priority is in television serials and anchoring shows.
Recently she appeared on Maanada Mayilada as a participant and won the main prize with Bala and the choreographer Mani.[1] Then she danced in anothor reality show of Vijay TV Boys vs Girls and won the award "best female dancer". She started her career at 1998 in DD Podhigai TV Mega serial (Vizhudugal). She acted in Kolangal,Reka IPS and many other serials and also working as a comperer. Her sister, Divyadarshini is also a TV Compere and television actress.

The film won a National Film Award for Sen's direction, and an acting award for Konkona Sen Sharma, the director's daughter. The film won more awards at the Locarno, Hawaii and Manila film festivals.
15, Park Avenue (2005) starred her daughter and the actors Shabana Azmi, Dhritiman Chaterji, Waheeda Rehman, Rahul Bose and Soumitra Chatterjee. The film deals with a girl (Konkona Sen Sharma) who is a schizophrenic and her relations with her elder stepsister, played by Shabana Azmi.
Her next film named The Japanese Wife (2010), stars Raima Sen, Rahul Bose and Chigusa Takaku. This film focuses on two women and is based on a short story by West Bengal author Kunal Basu.
Aparna has made selective films and in the last three decades of her career, she has made only nine films.
In 2009, Sen announced her next Bengali film Iti Mrinalini, which stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Aparna Sen, Rajat Kapoor, Koushik Sen, and Priyanshu Chatterjee. Sen's last Bengali film was Paromitar Ek Din (2000). First-time screenwriter Ranjan Ghosh has co-authored Iti Mrinalini. This was the first time that Aparna Sen collaborated with any film writer or became attached to the curriculum of a film institute. The screenplay of Iti Mrinalini was an assignment in the Screenwriting syllabus at the Mumbai-based film school Whistling Woods International.[3] It was also a major first in Indian screenwriting whence any screenplay from any Indian film institute was actually filmed.[4] The film is released on July 29, 2011.
